Ganstown Deli flyer

This famous deli is named after Leopold Gans who was one of the first to emigrate to Ararat from Germany after the anti-Semitic Hep Hep Riots of 1819.  Gans corresponded with Noah in the early years and was a strong advocate of Noah’s ambitious plan. The deli poster is also playing with the meanings of his proper name since Gans means “goose” in German while “ganz” can mean “a whole lot” in either German or Yiddish when referring to the size of the portions served at the restaurant.
